The Vienna-based Finnish mezzo-soprano Tuija Knihtilä graduated from the Sibelius-Academy and continued her studies at Die Hochschule der Künste Berlin as well as at the Zürich International Opera Studio of the. Initially ensemble member at the Finnish National Opera, she works as a freelancer since 2010.
The core of Knihtilä’s repertoire consists of the major operatic mezzo-soprano roles as well as of symphonic and chamber music literature. The dramatic characters from Carmen to Ortrud, from Fricka to Amneris, from Santuzza to Kundry, or the multifaceted colours from Chausson to Mahler, from Berlioz to Beethoven, from Sibelius to Strauss, are all the inspiring cornerstones of her artistry.
